Plato and Aristoteles Craters, Montes Alpes Take a look at our Moon |
|
|
© 2009 The Lozano Observatory Aristoteles Crater (visible right of center) is located in the North central portion of the Moon just to the East of Mare Frigois and North of Mare Serenitatis. This crater is one of the most easy to see from Earth with a telescope due to its relative isolation. The mountain region along the terminator is Montes Alpes, elevations range up to 16,000 feet. Plato crater is at the 7 o'clock position in this image. The terminator on the moon (dark to illuminated moon) determines temperatures from -100F to +225F due to the lack of an atmosphere. Near the terminator, notice the Sheepshanks range along with the C. Mayer and Kane Craters. CLICK HERE for more information on Plato Crater. This image was taken with a Meade 12" LX90-GPS with a Nikon D40 6.1 MP camera. This image is a stack of 12 exposures at f/5.6 for .125 seconds each.
