M27  The Dumbbell Nebula

Planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula, at a distance of about 1,360 light years.

 M27 - The Dumbbell Nebula is a planetary nebula (a remnant of a star which has blown off its upper layers and sent this material into space).  This was the 1st Planetary Nebula discovered (in 1764 by Charles Messier).  M27 is a dim object at a magnitude 7.5 making it visible only to telescopes and binoculars from most locations. To locate this Galaxy and helps to have an advanced knowledge of the sky.   CLICK HERE locate M27 in the night sky.

    Take a close look at the center this image, it shows the neutron star that once expelled this gas into space.  Bluish glow is oxygen and red glow is hydrogen.
