M50 Open Cluster Located in The Constellation Monoceros |

© 2010 The Lozano Observatory M50 Open Cluster is located in the constellation Monoceros and is about 3,000 light years from Earth. This cluster was discovered by Charles Messier in 1772 but was mentioned in the works of Giovanni Domenico Cassini (an Italian astronomer) one year prior to his death in 1712. M50 is a moderately bright at magnitude 5.9 but can be difficult to see without the aid of a telescope or binoculars. CLICK HERE for more information on M50.
