M57 The Ring Nebula

Located in The Constellation Lyra

 M57 - The Ring Nebula is part of a cloud of  gas that was "puffed" off a dying star.  A close look at the inner portion of this image reveals the neutron star responsible for this nebula.  This nebula is located in the constellation Lyra, near the star Vega and is one of the largest nebulas visible. 

 M57 is a dim object with an magnitude of 8.8 and can be seen with a telescope or binoculars by knowledgeable observers.   CLICK HERE to locate M57 in the night sky.

   This is an image taken with a Meade 12" LX90-GPS for 14 minutes with an SBIG ST-2000 XCM single shot camera.
