M8 The Lagoon Nebula Located in The Constellation Sagittarius |

© 2009 The Lozano Observatory M8 - VERSION 2, CLOSE UP. The Lagoon Nebula is part of a cloud of gas that includes a star forming region. This nebula is located in the constellation Sagittarius and is one of the largest nebulas visible. M8 is a dim object but can be seen with un-aided eyes under the right conditions by knowledgeable observers. CLICK HERE to locate M8 in the night sky. Take a close look at the center this image, it shows an immense dust lane near its center and a region of super-heated gas from newly formed stars. This nebula is located in a section of a Milky Way arm which accounts for the numerous background stars. This is an image taken with a Meade 12" LX90-GPS for 12 minutes with an SBIG ST-2000 XCM single shot camera.
