Plato Crater - Mare Frigoris Take a look at our Moon |
|
|
© 2009 The Lozano Observatory Plato Crater is located in the North central portion of the Moon just to the south of Mare Frigois and on the edge of Mare Imbrium. This crater is one of the most interesting on the moon due to its nearly perfect crater shape and smooth floor (due to lava flow). The terminator on the moon (dark to illuminated moon) determines temperatures from -100F to +225F due to the lack of an atmosphere. Near the terminator, notice the Nansen mountain range along with the Peterman and Cusagus Craters, these areas are not as visible from Earth due to their locations. CLICK HERE for more information on Plato Crater. This image was taken with a Meade 12" LX90-GPS with a Nikon D40 6.1 MP camera. This image is a stack of 28 exposures at f/5.6 for .125 seconds each.
