Tyco & Schiller Craters

Take a look at our Moon

© 2009 The Lozano Observatory

Tyco crater is one of the most dramatic craters on the moon.  Tyco features a central XXXXX  and also features some of the longest ejecta rays (over 600 miles)  indicating a high velocity impact on a rather solid surface meaning Tyco is rather young for a comparative moon crater.

Schiller Crater is located in the Southwestern portion of the Moon just to the south of Oceanus Procellarum. This crater is one of the most interesting on the moon due to its elongated shape.

Just to the north of this image (out of view) was the landing site of Apollo 12 and 14 at Mare Cognitum and Fra Mauro  highlands respectively.

This image was taken with a Meade 12" LX90-GPS with a Nikon D40 6.1 MP camera. This image is a stack of 21 exposures at f/5.6 for .125 seconds each.
